American Kevin McDowell showed unreal perseverance at the Tokyo Olympic Games triathlon with arguably the greatest race of his life.  The Geneva, IL born 27-year-old had a bit slower swim than many of the race favorites but remained diligent once on the bike leaping from the 2nd chase pack up to the head group of about 10 athletes.  But it was on the run, where McDowell elevated day, holding strong in the front group of 3 for most of the day and even taking short turns off the front.  Yee, Wyld, and the eventual gold medalist Kristian Blummenfelt kept the untouchable pace on for the final 3 laps before the Norweigian made his move and crossed the finish line with plenty of time to soak it up.  McDowell sprinted in for 6th place, the highest ever for the American men.    A huge nod of respect to Gold Medalist Kristian Blummenfelt who no doubt deserved the win considering he is the strongest cyclist in the field and was equalized by a bike course with many turns.  His breakaway on the run was spectacular and to be able to hold off the super runners in Yee, Wlyd, Brownlee was nothing short of legendary.  Magni, the Norse god of strength, and son of Thor, would have had a hard time holding Blummenfelt down in Tokyo.
