Learmonth Thrills Home Crowd with a Silver in Leeds

Published June 7th, 2021 by Humaninterestadmin

British Triathlete Jessica Learmonth came into last weekend's WTS series race in her hometown of Leeds with mild expectations after working through an injury the past few months.  Learmonth, who is no stranger to the podium, knew the competition would be as fierce as ever, especially given the fact that there has been little racing the past 12 months and thus, little chance to get a sneak peek on fellow competitors before seeing them on the start line in Tokyo.  Yet Learmonth was less focused on who she was racing and instead, concentrated on making sure she could perform at her level, fresh off of months of rehabbing an injured sacrum.  And she delivered.  With a brutal, uphill, blue carpet finish chute, no one was more surprised with a silver medal than Learmonth herself.  "The injury is under control and Jess is 100% focused on fine-tuning the last 1%.  I can't wait for Tokyo!,"  commented HIG's Michael Cardoza.
